Local Store Wins Top NSW Liquor Store Award

At the Recent NSW Liquor Store Association Awards for Excellence held in Sydney Old Bar Cellars was the winner of three Awards: -

  • Award for being one of the top ten Liquor Stores in NSW
  • The Top Regional Liquor Store for 2007
  • The Liquor Store Of The Year for 2007

The award is designed to recognise the most outstanding liquor store in NSW

The stores are judged by means of a mystery shopper who assesses each store for the customer shopping experience.

The mystery shopper is independent of the LSA to ensure fair and transparent store assessments.

Each store was judged on set criteria including the following:

  • First Impression – store appearance, RSA signage, Cleanliness and orderliness of the store etc.
  • Staff Presentation – name badge, grooming etc.
  • Customer relations- acknowledging and greeting a customer etc.
  • Sales Skills – product knowledge, ability to match product to customers needs.
  • Sales transactions – accuracy of processing, efficiency etc.
  • Overall impression.

The Owners of Old Bar Cellars, Tim & Cozette Leonard accepted the awards that were held at Doltone House in Pyrmont before 200 attendees including the Minister for Gaming and Racing, Representatives of the Major Industry Partners - Fosters Australia, Tooheys and Diageo plus Australian & NSW LSA Executives, other store owners and liquor company representatives on Wednesday 12th September.

Tim and Cozette thanked their staff - as much of the hard work in maintaining their store to its high standing is their responsibility and they especially thanked recently departed staff Tony & Louise Mitchell who managed the store while they were on a recent break. Old Bar Cellars has been totally revamped in their three years of ownership with a customer friendly layout, better signage, parking, larger storage area and simplified product handling.

This award represents a win for the success of the Australian Liquor Store Associations conferences, where ALSA recruits business experts to educate small business owners on the key areas and skills they need to offer a viable alternative to the major chain liquor stores. This has enabled Old Bar Cellars to grow and gain loyal customers through supporting the local community, offering an extensive range of products, a superior level of service and providing excellent product knowledge for all of their customers.
